“Dreams can come true”
Robert will celebrate his 40th birthday during BOAB 2008…What a way to celebrate, somewhere in the Mid-Western United States grinding away 100 miles on a bike. He has been a Coos Bay Police officer since 1990 and is now assigned as the detective sergeant.
Robert enjoys spending time with his wife Tammy who is a 911 Telecommunicator (yes, she gets paid to tell him where to go). They both enjoy any activity that gives them a reason to travel in their RV and attending Oregon Ducks football games. Tammy sarcastically says, “What a way to spent MY vacation; watching my husband cycle across the US.”
When Robert is not working he enjoys competitive triathlons and waterskiing. Most of his spare time is spent running, cycling, swimming, and water-skiing. As if he wasn’t busy enough, he runs his own autobody and RV repair and paint business while attending college to finish his 4 year degree.
“Dreams can come true” – two years ago Robert did not ever dream of riding a bicycle any great distance and then the challenge came to ride with the BOAB team as they cycled from Florence to Coos Bay (55 miles May 2005). He began training on his old mountain bike and the day before the ride he borrowed a road bike from his friend Rich to make the trip. He enjoyed cycling and the new friends made so he immediately ordered a road bike and the rest is history. This led to competing in triathlons, forming a team to cycle across the UK (May 2006), and now taking on the challenge to cycle across the US. He is thrilled that Neil and Jeff have invited him to be a member of BOAB 2008 and is looking forward to this new challenge.
