The longest non stop canoe race in the world...



Easter weekend, 2012, will see Neil Smith and Rob Bryan
take on the Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race.
 
125 miles, 77 portages, one race - non stop.


Neil and Rob spent easter weekend 2011 supporting Jeff Cribb and Martin Howard
 as they took on their 'DW'. Whilst watching the excitement at the start in Deizes,
they shook hands and declared..."next year it's our turn"

In July 2011, they sat in a marathon kayak for the first time ever!
In fact it was Neil's first time in a canoe or kayak fullstop!
It was also many years since Rob had canoed before...

Bloody minded determination and help from those in the know...
finally they were able to paddle and stay up right!

Training has continued...heading from Summer into Winter, in wind, rain, gales,
 snow and frozen rivers and portages.

Support crew for the DW will be;

'News'

Training began on July 20th 2011...Neil and Rob spent the best part of the first session in the water...amazed at how unstable a marathon K2 kayak was. But after a few weeks hard effort, with dedicated 'coaching' from Jeff, together with Les and Lee from Royal Hospital School Holbrook, they are progressing well.
