Welcome to Bobby on a Bike

'Raising funds and awareness for charity since 2000'

The first ever Bobby on a Bike took place during April and May 2002, when, after 18 months of planning and preperation, Neil Smith and Tony Spry cycled 1,800 miles from Canada to Mexico along the pacific coast of the USA.

The plan was to cycle from Police Dept to Police Dept, to enjoy a 'yarn' with fellow law enforcement officers, not forgetting to raise a few dollars for charity. Despite a crash, at the 81 mile point on the first day, the event was a complete success. Charities on both sides of the pond benefited from the event, with over £15,000 being divided, the beneficiaries being, The Prostate Cancer Charity and The National Asthma Campaign in the UK and, The American Lung Association and The Fred Hutchinson Organization in the USA.

In May 2005, Neil and Tony were joined by Jeff Cribb, as they completed another Canada to Mexico trip. This time Suffolk Help in Multiple Sclerosis and The Miles Alder Trust benefited.

In 2006, a team of 5 from Coos Bay, Oregon, visited the UK for 2 weeks on a 'return leg' of Bobby on a bike. Spending 2 days with Suffolk Police, 7 days cycling across the UK and 2 days visiting London, before flying home cream crackered.

From the first 2 events Bobby on a bike have

donated over £32,000 to charity.

In June 2008 the BOAB team cycled across the United States from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast, following a route known as the 'Trans-America', a distance of 4,295 miles, across 3 time zones....they were joined this time by friends they met in the USA on the first 2 events. This event was significantly harder, with the cyclists turning the pedals for over 20% more miles per day than during the 2005 event.

** The total funds raised so far total nearly £40,000 **

** New ride - May 2009 **
